Dentures

Dentures are a solution for missing teeth. Dentures can be put in or taken out as you please, and can be full or partial.

Full Dentures

Full dentures are used when all natural teeth have been removed from your mouth.

Conventional Full Dentures

Conventional full dentures are used when all teeth have been removed and the mouth has been given time to heal. It takes a few months for the gums to heal from the tooth removal, and during that time, you will be without teeth.

Immediate Full Dentures

With this option, before your teeth are removed, your dentist has your mouth fitted for dentures. After removing the teeth, the dentures are immediately placed–giving the benefit of not be without teeth during he months of healing. However, as the jaw bone was not given time to heal following the extraction, it will change shape and the dentures will need to be tightened after the healing process is complete.

Partial Dentures

When not all of your teeth need to be removed, partial dentures are a solution. Partial dentures act like a bridge, but unlike a bridge, partial dentures are not a permanent fixture in your mouth.

Whether full or partial, learning to talk and eat with dentures is an adjustment. Over time, your mouth will acclimate and they will feel like your natural teeth.

Dentures still need to be cared for, even though they are not real teeth. Brushing them to remove plaque and food particles is necessary. When they are not in your mouth, they should be placed in room temperature water or a denture cleaning solution. Take special care to never place dentures in hot water as hot water can warp and damage dentures. If your dentures are ever loose and need adjusting, visit your dentist. Dentures are delicate and can easily be damaged or even destroyed by mishandling.
