Operative

Instructions

You have just had either a permanent crown or bridge cemented onto your natural tooth/teeth. They replace your natural tooth structure and should give you years of good service…provided you observe the following cautions:

Try to avoid eating or drinking hot liquids on the new crown or bridge for 24 hours. This allows the cement to permanently setup for optimal strength and retention.

Sensitivity can occur following cementation but should gradually disappear over the next couple of weeks. Infrequently, sensitivity can last longer than six weeks, please notify our office for further evaluation.

Preventative Procedures

We want you to receive many years of service with your new restorations and to prevent future dental and supporting tissue failure or breakdown, please use the following guidelines: -brush and floss after eating and before bedtime

-use a fluoride rinse, swish vigorously for at least 30 seconds daily, preferably prior to bedtime, or until sensitivity subsides. Then follow label directions

-use a fluoride toothpaste or Prevident 5000 Plus prescription toothpaste if recommended by our office.

Recall

Inadequate return for examination and cleaning is the most significant reason for crown/bridge failure. Along with not maintaining proper recalls for cleanings and exams lead to failures. Every patient has different dental hygiene needs but on average a visit to our office every 3 to 6 months is required for proper exam and cleanings. If there are problems developing we can address this at an earlier stage and corrections can be made. Waiting for a longer time may require re-doing the entire restoration and increased costs to you .

We have done our best to provide you with the finest quality restoration available today. However, only your continuing care and concern can assure long term good dental health. If sensitivity or any problems seems excessive to you, please call our office. We are always willing to be of assistance. Please be advised any tooth that is worked on for a filling or crown could require root canal therapy at a later date.
